Mangistau region is the most remote and not quite typical part of Kazakhstan. This concerns the landscape, climate and many other features of life and infrastructure of the region.
Why is Mangistau worth visiting?
Mangistau is known for its truly Martian landscapes and unique wildlife, which attracts travelers from all over the world. Here is the unique Ustyurt Nature Reserve, where thousands of species of rare animals live. Also here you can see one of the most impressive natural sites of Kazakhstan - the Bozzhira tract. Other attractions of Mangistau are also worth visiting: the Karynzharyk Depression, Mount Bokty, Mount Sherkala, the Torysh Valley and others. In addition, the lowest point of Kazakhstan is located in Mangistau - the Karagiye Depression.
This region also has the unofficial name of the "land of 360 saints" because 360 Sufis lived, preached and were buried here. Many of them built underground mosques in Mangistau, which remain sites of pilgrimage to this day.
